Negotiations Committee

The Negotiating Committee is tasked with achieving the Spirit pilots’ contract priorities at the negotiating table.  Through surveys, polling, and informal meetings, the committee seeks input on what’s most important to the pilot group.  The committee also works closely with ALPA’s professional negotiators and economic advisors to create strategy and formalize proposals.  Should direct negotiations not progress as the committee expects, the Negotiating Committee can recommend that the MEC request mediation from the National Mediation Board (NMB), and then enter mediated negotiations. The committee is also responsible for identifying when negotiations have reached an impasse and direct that the MEC request a release to self-help from the NMB.  Negotiations are often not a quick process, but the stability of the committee is key to a successful outcome.
